How long is the drive from the International Airport to CSM?

Drive time varies based on weather, time of day, and road conditions. Expect a 2.5 to 3-hour drive.

Is a 4-wheel drive vehicle mandatory?

Yes! A 4WD (not AWD) is required for your safety, as the roads have steep inclines and uneven terrain.

Does CSM have hot water?

Yes! Hot water is available on demand.

Is the water at CSM drinkable?

Tap water is not drinkable. Filtered drinking water is provided in the kitchen, and glass bottles are available in each bedroom.

Will we be the only guests at the house?

Yes! CSM is exclusively rented—only one group at a time is hosted.

Is CSM and the Cayo area safe?

Yes! The Cayo area is a peaceful farming community. Due to its proximity to the Guatemala border, there is a strong police and military presence, ensuring safety.

How do on-site meals work?

CSM is a remote property. All meals must be pre-ordered, as supplies are brought in fresh. CSM is not a restaurant—dietary restrictions are individually addressed.

What are common foods in Belize?

Expect rice and beans, stewed meats, and fresh seafood. Chicken, pork, and fish are the most common proteins, while beef is typically used for stews.

What does "off-the-grid" mean?

CSM operates on solar energy, rainwater catchment, and an eco bio-digester septic system. There is no connection to the main power grid.

Does CSM have access to the Macal River?

Yes! A groomed trail leads from CSM to the Macal River.

Trip Preparation

  • No need to pack towels—they’re provided.

  • Drinking water is supplied—bring a refillable water bottle.

  • Bug spray is highly recommended.

  • Sturdy shoes are a must for uneven, wet terrain.

  • Print driving directions to CSM—GPS may not be reliable.

Electricity Conservation

  • Turn off lights and fans when not in use.

  • A backup generator is used on cloudy days and runs while guests are on tours.

Water Conservation

  • Water is sourced from a rain catchment system—please limit showers and general water use.

  • No paper products in toilets—use provided waste containers.

Laundry

A washer/dryer is on-site but not for guest use. Ask the manager if laundry service is needed.
